HARPER WOODS — With current UAW contracts set to expire by Sept. 15, new contract negotiations have intensified between the UAW and the Big Three automakers. These talks have taken place in the shadow of the recent federal investigation into business corruption. In response, state Rep. Tenisha Yancey (D-Harper Woods) issued the following statement:

“The strength of organized labor has been, and will continue to be, responsible for the strength of the middle class — that remains true even during times of turbulence. Regardless of what is going on with federal investigations into individual persons within an organization, union members should rest assured that the United Auto Workers, as an institution, will continue to fight for their needs during these contract negotiations. At the end of the day the need for solidarity remains the same. United we stand, divided we fall.”
