LANSING – In a move to show gratitude for the sacrifices that members of our armed forces have made for us, State Representative Gary McDowell (D-Rudyard) today introduced a bill that will waive all state recreation fees to disabled veterans and former prisoners of war.
"We want our veterans and their family members to know that the people of Michigan are behind them," McDowell said. "They need to know that we recognize and deeply appreciate the tremendous sacrifices they have made to keep our country safe and free. Allowing our veterans and POWs to enjoy our state's many opportunities for recreation is the least we can do to show our thanks."
McDowell's plan will waive fees for any veteran who has been determined by the U. S. Department of Veteran's Affairs to be permanently and totally disabled as a result of military service, or a resident who has been a prisoner of war.
"Michigan is a great place to hunt, fish, camp, boat and enjoy the outdoors," McDowell said. "My plan will ensure those same enjoyable activities are available to the men and women who served our country and protected our way of life. I will do whatever I can to enrich the lives of those who put their lives on the line for our freedom."
